Data sources, legal bases and licences

For each connected source, the following overview shows the registering authority, the legal basis, the licence, the attribution owed, the limits and the restrictions on reuse. It is also the basis of the notices displayed with each result.

Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation

Authority: Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation, Basel
Legal basis: Publication of the reference data of the Global Legal Entity Identifier System
Licence: Creative Commons Zero 1.0, public domain
Attribution: Attribution of the source and of the fact that only entities with an assigned identifier are covered.
Restrictions: No conclusion about creditworthiness or reliability may be drawn from the status of the identifier. The source does not replace a national register.

AT, Company register, high-value datasets

Authority: Republic of Austria, represented by the Federal Ministry of Justice
Legal basis: Austrian Information Reuse Act, section 8(2) free of charge, and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/138 on high-value datasets
Licence: Terms of use for information reuse, alternatively Creative Commons Attribution 4.0
Attribution: Republic of Austria, represented by the Federal Ministry of Justice. Any change or enrichment must be clearly identifiable to the end user. The Republic's liability for processed data is excluded.
Restrictions: Documents from the collection of documents, in particular annual accounts, are not cached but passed on unchanged on request; retrieval is available only to logged-in users. The right of use is not transferable. Passing on the raw data essentially unchanged to unaffiliated companies is not permitted reuse. No impression of an official extract may be created. The place of jurisdiction is Vienna.

AT, Austrian trade information system, stage 1

Authority: Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism
Legal basis: Trade Regulation Act 1994 together with publication of trade licences
Licence: Terms of use of the public interface, no licence reservation
Attribution: Attribution of the source and the time of retrieval and of the fact that the information concerns only the trade licence queried.
Restrictions: The query always requires the GISA number and the name of the holder and serves to validate individual businesses. Mass queries and industry, founder and contact lists are prohibited. Commercial use is expressly permitted.

FR, Recherche d’entreprises

Authority: French State, Direction interministérielle du numérique, based on INSEE data
Legal basis: Code des relations entre le public et l’administration on the reuse of public sector information
Licence: Licence Ouverte 2.0 for the underlying Sirene data
Attribution: Attribution of the source and the time of retrieval and of the fact that units with restricted distribution are not included.
Restrictions: Officers are taken over to the extent the interface provides them.

CZ, Administrativní registr ekonomických subjektů

Legal basis: Act on Free Access to Information together with publication of register data
Licence: Operating conditions of the register
Attribution: Attribution of the source and the time of retrieval. The information there is compiled from the commercial register, the trade register and other registers; trade licences come from the Živnostenský rejstřík of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Restrictions: Officers are taken over with name, function and date of birth as stated in the register. Shareholders are shown only once the conditions for commercial re-use have been confirmed; this confirmation has been requested.

PL, Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy

Legal basis: Act on the National Court Register together with publication of extracts
Licence: Terms of the open information service
Attribution: Attribution of the source and the time of retrieval. Personal data have already been pseudonymised by the authority.
Restrictions: The open service offers no name search. The trade register of sole traders is not covered.

DK, Det Centrale Virksomhedsregister

Authority: Danish Business Authority, access through the government data distributor Datafordeler
Legal basis: Act on the Central Business Register (CVR-loven)
Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) for the free basic data
Attribution: Attribution of the source under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution licence.
Restrictions: The CVRPerson entity (officers) is separately protected and requires the Danish business digital signature; it is not queried. Units with advertising protection must be respected; the data may not be used for direct marketing. Personal identification numbers and protected private addresses are excluded.

GB, Companies House

Authority: Companies House, United Kingdom
Legal basis: Companies Act 2006 together with publication of register data
Licence: Open Government Licence 3.0
Attribution: Attribution of the source including the licence notice for the Open Government Licence.
Restrictions: The key must be stored on the server side and must not be passed on. A restriction to the querying server addresses is provided for.

IE, Companies Registration Office

Authority: Companies Registration Office, Ireland
Legal basis: Companies Act together with publication of the company dataset as open data
Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0
Attribution: The notice “Contains Irish Public Sector Data” must be displayed, together with source, licence and the fact that the data are updated daily.
Restrictions: The dataset is a daily snapshot and is not equivalent to a real-time register extract.

GR, Γενικό Εμπορικό Μητρώο

Authority: Greek commercial registry

Restrictions: For officers, name, function, power of representation and period are taken over; the interface does not supply dates of birth or home addresses. Access requires approval by the Central Union of Hellenic Chambers.

HR, Sudski registar

Authority: Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Croatia

Licence: Terms of the open data portal of the court register
Attribution: Attribution of the source and the time of retrieval.
Restrictions: For the public branch, a maximum of six queries of the full extract per minute is permitted. The name search therefore first returns a short results list, for which the details are then fetched; it is limited to a few results.

CH, Zefix, central business name index

Authority: Federal Commercial Registry Office
Legal basis: Terms of the EHRA for the Zefix REST API; no general licence for linked documents
Licence: Individually communicated Zefix REST API terms of use of 21.09.2026
Attribution: When reusing, state the origin and mark changes. CompanyDesk adds the time of retrieval.
Restrictions: Source: Zefix – Central Business Name Index, Federal Commercial Registry Office (EHRA), Federal Office of Justice, Switzerland. CompanyDesk selects information and processes it technically; field names and presentation may differ from the source. The data and links are without guarantee and have no legal effect. Only the certified register extract issued by the competent commercial register office and the publication text in the Swiss Official Gazette of Commerce (SOGC) are binding. The EHRA accepts no liability for damage resulting from the unavailability of the interface; to that extent no claim for damages can be made against the EHRA.

Restrictions: According to the access email, an account inactive for six months will be closed. If disclosure of the access credentials is suspected, Bolagsverket must be contacted immediately. The access email contains no separate reuse conditions.

Legal basis: Register of Enterprises Act together with publication as open data
Licence: Open data under the Freedom of Information Act, reuse without restriction
Attribution: Attribution of the source and the date of the imported dataset.
Restrictions: The authority offers no interface for individual queries. The dataset is reimported daily, so that changes and deletions are reflected.

Restrictions: The open dataset comprises registration number, full name, business address, legal form and registering body. The agency's live service is subject to charges and quotas and is not used.
