The Czech commercial register (obchodní rejstřík)

The obchodní rejstřík is one of six public registers governed by Act No. 304/2013 Coll. on public registers of legal and natural persons; others include the register of associations and the register of foundations. The register is a public administration information system and is kept electronically by the registry courts, namely the regional courts and the Municipal Court in Prague.

Who is registered

Required to register are in particular the commercial companies, namely the general partnership (v.o.s.), the limited partnership (k.s.), the limited liability company (s.r.o.) and the joint-stock company (a.s.), as well as cooperatives and branches of foreign businesses. Sole traders generally do not appear in the commercial register but in the separate trade register (živnostenský rejstřík).

Inspection and official extract

The register can be inspected by anyone free of charge on the internet portal of the Czech Ministry of Justice. An officially certified electronic extract, signed with the system certificate of the registry court, can also be obtained there free of charge. In addition to the current extract there is a full extract with all entries, including deleted ones. The collection of documents (sbírka listin) contains, among other things, articles of association and annual accounts.
